Hvað er samfélagsþjónusta?
Samfélagsþjónusta felur í sér tímabundið ólaunað starf í þágu samfélagsins sem kemur í stað afplánunar í fangelsi.
Samfélagsþjónusta leggur þá skyldu á brotamann að inna af hendi launalausa vinnu í ákveðinn tímafjölda í þágu samfélagsins á tilgreindu tímabili. Samfélagsþjónustan hefur þann kost að brotamaður getur haldið sambandi við fjölskyldu, stundað vinnu sína eða nám meðan hann “afplánar” refsinguna. Vinnan felst í líknar- eða hjálparstörfum og hefur uppeldislegt gildi fyrir brotamann og nýtist samfélaginu. Sjá nánar reglur um framkvæmd og eftirlit.

Community service
What is community service?
Community service consists of a temporary unpaid job for the benefit of society, which takes the place of expiation in prison.
Community service requires that an offender carry out unpaid work for a certain number of hours for the benefit of society for a specified time-period. Community service has the benefit of an offender being able to maintain his relationship with family, work or study while he "epiates" the sentence.
The work consists of charity or relief work and has educational value for offenders and is useful in society. See rules of the implementation and supervision.
